So, to catch up.
Everything was looking wonderful. My carrots were big and bushy with small carrots forming under ground. My beets had giant leaves with tiny beets starting under them. My peas were blooming and I had already harvested a few.
I was really feeling good about my great gardening skills!
You do notice, that I say WAS!
My biggest worry has been the rain, rain, rain. So far things aren't looking too stressed from it as we've had a few days of intense heat to straighten everything out. We put in rainbarrels so were prepared for droughts - we're not really hoping for that but it would be nice to get a little use out of the barrels.
So I've been checking every day morning and evening to have a little talk with my babies and they've been wonderful.
It rained really hard this morning so I didn't go out to check. Went to the downtown Art Show instead. Then, as an afterthought this afternoon, I
decided to pick a few raspberries and have my daily talk with the troops.
Oh No! Some villain or villians - most probably deer - marauded my poor little darlings.
The beet tops are gone, the beets themselves pulled up. They must have been really tasty! The carrots are nibbled, the peas clipped off and even the beans are a little the worse for wear.
So I sprayed Liquid Fence over eveything - had done this early in the month and it worked like a charm. But with the rain, it must have all washed off.
So I won't be having beets any time soon, I guess. The peas may be alright.
But we will be having a big bowl of raspberries in the morning with our cereal!
